ESTISURF® Emulsifiers

Emulsifiers for Solvents, Oils & Waxes

The ESTISURF® product range consist of surfactants for a wide range of applications in formulated chemical products. An important part of our ESTISURF® range is the emulsifiers for solvents, oil & waxes.

On this site, you will find our range of nonionic emulsifiers for application as primary or -secondary emulsifiers in release agents, polishes, solvent emulsions, metalworking lubricants etc.

In addition to emulsify oils & waxes, ESTISURF® emulsifiers can be used for making oils & solvents rinsible with water.

ESTISURF emulsifiers – a broad range for all applications

The selection of an emulsifier for a specific formulation depends on the required properties for the formulation but especially on the chemical nature of the medium to be emulsified.

Some oily components are highly polar whereas others are non-polar, and they require completely different emulsifiers to obtain a stable emulsion with a small droplet size. ESTI CHEM has experience with various types of emulsifiers creating stable, semi-stable or fast-splitting emulsions.

Often a combination of emulsifiers is applied, eventually additions of a wetting agents and co-solvents such as a small amount of glycol ethers.

Parameters for emulsifier selection

Some typical parameters, that influence the choice of emulsifier:

  • The pH value of the formulation: in the pH range 6-9, all emulsifiers may be applied, but the further the formulation goes to the acidic or alkaline side, the more we recommend focusing on fatty alcohol alkoxylates. For water-free formulations, there are no limitations.
  • The HLB value of the nonionic surfactant: a hydrocarbon solvent normally requires a lower HLB value of the emulsifier than more polar fluids such as esters. The table will guid you to the right selection of emulsifier for a screening test.
  • Requirements for raw material origin: for some applications, there may be requirements for bio-based origin of the formulation raw materials; in others it may no be important. Please consult www.estichem.com for more information about the content of bio-based raw materials in our products.
  • Requirements for Eco-label: In case you require eco-label on the formulation ingredients, you can consult estichem.com for further information about the eco-label qualifications of the various ESTISURF® emulsifiers.
  • Requirements for CLP label: you can find more information about the CLP labelling of an ESTISURF® emulsifier in the product MSDS.
