ESTISOL®
ESTISOL® as alternative to traditional solvents
ESTI CHEM has always been in the forefront of promoting safer alternatives to traditional hydrocarbon solvents. We have consistently championed the use of vegetable esters as formulation components for the chemical industry.
Our commitment initially targeted replacing primary aromatic solvents, and more recently, aliphatic hydrocarbon solvents have also been successfully substituted with our CLP-free ESTISOL® ester solvents.
Top choice d-Limonene alternative
ESTISOL® esters have become the top choice for formulators seeking a superior alternative to aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons, limonene, and other potent solvents in their chemical products.
By incorporating ESTISOL® esters, you not only have the potential to reduce or even eliminate VOC emissions but also enhance the environmental, health, and safety aspects of your product without sacrificing its technical performance.
Often referred to as a green solvent or a vegetable solvent, a vegetable ESTISOL® ester has a biocarbon content of >50%, it is readily biodegradable, and it has low environmental toxicity.
Non VOC-solvents
However, we prefer to label them as "safer solvents" because, like any chemical, they require proper handling and care.
ESTISOL® esters are versatile and can often replace traditional solvents, boost solvency, or serve as carrier fluids in a wide range of formulated products, including industrial cleaners, degreasers, blanket & roller washes, printing inks, hand cleaners, paint strippers, and oil field chemicals.
Look at ESTISOL® when you prioritize:
- No CLP label
- Minimal VOC emissions
- Ready biodegradability
- Low environmental impact
- High bio-carbon content
- Outstanding solvency power
Most wanted ESTISOL's®
Our key ESTISOL® products applied in VOC reduction projects are ESTISOL 190, ESTISOL 242 and ESTISOL 312.
For some applications, a certain evaporation of the solvents is needed in the process, and other products such as ESTISOL 140 and ESTISOL 165 applied in such cases.
When a higher viscosity is needed, long-chain esters such as ESTISOL 297 and ESTISOL 390 could be used.

FAQ about ESTISOL®
How can I use ESTISOL solvents?
As alternative to hydrocarbons such as aromatics, dearomatized hydrocarbons, and d-limonene
As replacement for problematic solvents such as NMP, ketones and other polar solvents
As booster for low-price based solvents such as D100 type fluids
Are ESTISOLs volatile?
Yes, some products such ESTISOL 130, 140, 165 and 163 evaporate slowly at room temperature. Most other ESTISOLs are non-VOCs.
Are ESTISOLs water-miscible?
Yes, some products are completely (ESTISOL F3185), partly (ESTISOL 130) or slightly water miscible (ESTISOL 150, 163, and 165) but all other ESTISOLs are non-water miscible.
They can be emulsified in water by ESTISURF emulsifiers or by using a microemulsion ESTISURF package (ESTISURF MF20 MB), in which emulsifiers & ESTISOLs are already combined in an optimal mix from the beginning.
How do I choose the best ESTISOL for the formulation of a cleaning product?
The ESTISOL solvent can be selected based on the polarity of the substance to be removed from the surface:
Besides the polarity
Other parameter like the bio-carbon contact and physical parameters such as flash point may be used as selection criteria.
The bio-carbon indicator can be found in the ESTISOL products tables.
