Sourcing approach

We select, approve and evaluate new and existing suppliers based on their ability to meet our requirements for quality, delivery reliability and ESG.

We use RSPO certified palm oil in our ESTISOL® MB and ESTISURF® MB grades

Vegetable fatty acids are used as raw materials in our ESTISOL® ester solvents and ESTISURF® surfactants.

Fatty acids are produced from unsaturated European oils such as rapeseed oil but for some esters, the use of short- and medium-chain saturated fatty acids is required. The only commercial sources for such saturated acids are coconut oil, palm oil and palm kernel oil.

Palm oil production has significantly negative effects on biodiversity, as it often replaces tropical forests. In addition, palm oil production has also social risks including forced labor, child labor and unsafe working conditions.

Therefore, we use RSPO certified palm kernel oil in our MB products. We strive to increase the amount of MB material in the coming years.

What is Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO)?

RSPO is a non-profit organization, which unites stakeholders from the 7 sectors of the palm oil industry to develop and implement global standards for sustainable palm oil through cooperation within the supply chain and open dialogue between its stakeholders. Read more about RSPO here.

The RSPO standard has 162 environmental, social and governance (ESG) requirements that growers must comply with. These indicators cover:
